Secrets And Lies

I used to hide in my bedroom and eat king size candy bars when I was younger. I would sell them for school fundraisers and I would always end up "selling" them to myself! Haha! True story...I bought them with my leftover lunch money. My sister always asked me how I sold the candy bars so fast. I would just tell her, "I sold them, Sommer. Maybe you need to try a little harder?" Lol! I think she eventually caught on because her room was right next to mine. I would bolt out of my room into the bathroom to brush my teeth before we ate our family dinner.

How often do we "hide" because we are embarrassed or ashamed? We do everything we can to protect ourselves from being exposed. I knew my parents wouldn't mind if I had a piece of candy after I had eaten dinner. However, I was pudgy and would be embarrassed if I was seen eating all that candy. Therefore, I ate it in secret. Do you know what? The secret ate at me daily because I was actually being very deceptive. "Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind." (1 Peter 2:1) My parents assumed I sold the candy to other people besides myself and I let them think that. I was also disobeying them because I knew I had to eat dinner before we could have dessert.

Is there a secret you are trying to conceal because you are afraid of being found out? "And you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32) There is freedom in telling the truth and in authenticity. There is freedom in stepping out of the dark and into God's glorious light. The LORD wants to deliver, heal and set you free, but it requires you to stop hiding from Him. There is also freedom in not trying to be a perfectionist before others because we all know that this can get very exhausting. The Holy Spirit longs to give grace to liberate our souls to be real and authentic. This grace given by Him and this grace received by us needs time before we can experience its glorious effect. I can shout to the heavens how awesome its effect has been in my own life. Desiring your freedom too!!! “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” (John 8:36)➵  #soulchaser
