Let’s Be Honest—We Want the Credit.

If we worked hard, earned the degree, came up with the idea, or perfected the craft—shouldn’t we get the recognition?

Why should someone else receive the credit we deserve?

It’s easy to get caught up in the desire for applause.

I’ve been there. Maybe you have too—craving the praise of people more than the approval of God.

I can still remember moments when I made sure everyone knew: “That was me.”

I wanted the credit. I wanted the spotlight.

But I also had the gift of watching someone live differently.

My mom.

She never craved the spotlight.

When I told her how wise or incredible she was, she’d smile and say, “It’s all the Lord.”

Not to sound overly spiritual—but because she meant it.

She lived to point people to Jesus.

And the truth is—everything good in us comes from Him.

That spark of creativity? His Spirit inspired it.

That strength to keep going? His grace sustained us.

That open door? He’s the one who turned the handle.

Try as we might, we can’t force open what He hasn’t unlocked.

Every talent. Every win. Every breakthrough.

It’s all because of Him.

Let’s not be the person Toby Keith sings about:

“I wanna talk about me

Wanna talk about I

Wanna talk about number one…”

Ever been around someone who always turns the conversation back to themselves?

You’re sharing a testimony—and suddenly, it’s their spotlight.

But what if we lived differently?

What if we didn’t care who got the credit?

What if we were more passionate about God getting the glory than our name getting attention?

Because ultimately—it’s His breath in our lungs.

His wisdom in our minds.

His power behind our purpose.

And if He wanted to, He could remind us in an instant:

It’s always been about Him.

So let’s be the ones who shift the spotlight.

The ones who redirect the praise.

The ones who live to make Jesus known.

Because at the end of the day—it’s not about us.

It never was.

So shine for Him.

And when the glory comes—lay it at His feet.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” —Matthew 5:16
